TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – It was a battle of the high school bands at Washburn University. Schools from around the state of Kansas marched into Topeka ready to compete in the Kansas band master’s association marching band championships.
As students from around the state picked up their instruments – or strapped them on in some cases – a desire to lay it all out on the field was the common thread that brought them together.
The chance to show off their skills holds quite a bit of meaning for students who march, some of whom have been working to hone their craft for much of their life.
Although some still went home empty handed, “band geeks,” as some proudly called themselves, returned to their respective home cities with some pep in their step.
