TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Rainbow House, also known as the Equality House in Topeka, was vandalized over the weekend with a homophobic slur painted on the north side of the house facing 12th Street.
The Equality house located at 1200 S.W. Orleans has been at the center of controversy since the national non-profit organization Planting Peace purchased it three years ago, sporting the multiple colors of the rainbow symbolizing gay pride.
Aaron Jackson, who owns the house, says he’s working with his organization to figure out a way to conduct a meaningful response.
“It’s too bad that people take an extreme view and have to vandalize,” says resident James Stemmons, “For the most part, the house over there has been pretty quiet and people have been able to, you know, express their view.”
This isn’t the first incident to be reported at the house, the house had fecal matter and urine thrown at it this past summer.
