TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT)- Two Topeka elementary schools in Topeka were on lockdown right as school was getting out on Monday due to a police chase.
State Street Elementary School and Scott Dual Language Magnet Elementary School were both affected according to Misty Kruger, communications director with Topeka Public Schools. Kruger said the Kansas Highway Patrol was chasing a driver near State Street Elementary School at 500 NE Sumner Street. The driver the highway patrol was chasing then got out of the vehicle and started running from police on foot, which is why Scoot Dual Language Magnet Elementary School was placed on lock down.
As of 4:30 p.m. Monday Kruger told KSNT News both schools were no longer on lockdown and parents were welcome to pickup their students if they hadn’t already been picked up. Kruger did say due to the two lockdowns school buses may be running behind.
