HOLTON, Kan. (KSNT) – A Holton man accused of sexually assaulting 6 women appeared in Jackson County Court Thursday afternoon. This case has had a negative impact on the community.
“Today we conducted the last of the 6 preliminary hearings we have had related to Jacob Ewing’s cases,” Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller said.
The preliminary hearing consisted of one of the six victims talking about the night she claims she was raped by 21-year-old Jacob Ewing.
“We did an arraignment on all six cases today which is the defendant’s ability to enter a plea of some sort,” Miller said.
Ewing pleaded not guilty to all charges. He faces 27 charges. Ranging from 5 counts of rape to criminal sodomy.
“Mr. Ewing did enter a plea of not guilty on all counts of all cases,” Miller said.
While the cases were heard in the court room… There are several people and we believe in his innocence.
One woman who did not want to be identified, told us she and others support Ewing despite the current allegations.
“The articles published portray him as a monster, it’s almost like he is guilty and has to prove his innocence,” a Ewing support said.
“Until he is able to share his side of the story no one knows who the true victim is,” the supporter continued.
“In any case if he is convicted of the top charge the minimum depending on his criminal history would be roughly eleven years if his criminal history is enhanced it may be more than that,” Miller said.
Jacob Ewing will be appearing in court for his first trial on March 27th. The Jackson county attorney says the 6 trials will last all week.
Here is the complete statement of support by a woman who did not want to be identified:
There are several people that are in support of Jake and we believe in his innocence. Our judicial system is innocent until proven guilty and with every hearing so far only one side of each story has been presented, yet over and over again you see articles published that portray him as some kind of monster. It’s almost like he is being said to be guilty and has to prove is innocence which shouldn’t be. Until he is able to say his side of each of these stories no one really knows who the true victim is. I pray one day that everyone will see the truth and that Jake is not a horrible person and that these girls are accusing him to be something that he is not.”
