JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (KSNT) – The City of Junction City announced on Friday the hiring of Terry Johnson, of Folkston, Georgia as the new Fire/EMS Chief.
The City says Johnson has served as Fire Chief for Charlton County, Georgia. He began his professional career as a firefighter in Wilson, North Carolina in 1999 and has been in fire service for over 22 years. He has held positions as a Fire Chief in Louisville, Mississippi and Charlton County in Folkston, Georgia. He was also an Adjunct Instructor for the Mississippi State Fire Academy in Jackson, Mississippi and a Testing Protctor for the Georgia Firefighter and Standards Commission in Forsyth, Georgia. He served seven years in the United States Army in the communications field and was honorably discharged as a Specialist in 1992.
Johnson has a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Management from the University of North Carolina in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He has also received numerous creditentials from the National Fire Academy for Fire Service Management that include Executive Fire Officer.
Johsnon replaces Kevin Royse who accepted the Fire Chief position in the City of Salina earleir this year . Rick Rook has been serving as Interim Fire Chief since that time.
City Manager Allen Dinkel says that after an extensive search Johnson was chosen for the positon and they are looking forward to having him and his family in their communtiy. Dinkel also thanked Rick Rook for serving as Interim Fire Chief since Chief Royse’s departure.
