WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police are expected to release new information at 4:30 p.m. in multiple stabbings that left one girl dead, another little girl injured, and a woman critically injured. Police arrested 47-year-old Hassan Wright near 55th and Broadway. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and attempted first-degree murder just after 3 p.m. Friday. Wright has had prior convictions. Police say Antonio J. Ray is no longer a person of interest.
The stabbing happened between 6:15 and 6:45 a.m. at the Parklane Shopping Center near Lincoln and Oliver. Another happened at 77th Street North and Ridge Road.
Officers and EMS arrived at Parklane, and they found two occupants, a girl, 5 to 7 years old, and a woman in her 20’s, in the red Jeep with multiple stab wounds. The woman was transported to the hospital. She is in critical condition and in surgery. Police said the girl died of stab wounds. KSN News has confirmed the girl was student in Wichita Public Schools. An employee arriving for work at Parklane found the woman and child.
“An employee at one the businesses found that a red Jeep had crashed into a van that was parked overnight in the parking lot. The mini van was unoccupied,” said Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, Wichita Police Department.
At 8:30 a.m., police said a second child, a 4 to 6-year-old girl, was found at 77th and Ridge Road with stab wounds. She was found in a field by a citizen.
“Investigators found the little girl walking out of a field. She has been taken to the hospital,” said Woodrow. “We believe the second victim is a sister.”
Police have yet to release the reason and motive for the crime.
“We are going to knock on doors of neighborhoods and figure out where this Jeep came from and what it was doing before it came into the parking lot,” said Woodrow. “I believe the car belonged to the victim, but we are still trying to determine that now.”
