Arson suspected in early Sunday morning fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Topeka fire officials believe an early Sunday morning fire was intentionally set.

The Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 2014 SW Wayne Avenue at 1:20 Sunday morning. That is located just southwest of Washburn University. TFD says a vehicle driving in the neighborhood noticed smoke coming from the house and called 911.

When crews arrived they reported heavy smoke coming from the one story house. Crews searched the residence and confirmed that it was empty. The was was then extinguished and the smoke ventilated out.

Officials say that the intentionally set fire started within the northeast corner of an enclosed back porch.

The estimated amount of damage is estimated to be over $10,000.
