PERRY, Kan. (KSNT) – One person has died following a three vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2000 Toyota Avalon was traveling northbound on Thompson Road around 2:45 p.m. when it failed to yield to a semi with a trailer, heading westbound on U.S. Highway 24, pulling out in front of the semi. The semi then crashed into the Toyota on the right passenger side door, the semi then struck a 2005 Dodge Ram head on that was heading eastbound on U.S. 24.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as 57-year-old Leanna G. Hickman, of Oskaloosa. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family was notified by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. KHP says Hickman was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi was identified as 57-year-old Gary Wayne Dowdy, of Woodward, Oklahoma, who was not injured in the crash. Dowdy was wearing a seat belt according to KHP.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as 58-year-old Wade Ray Fischer, of Ozawkie, along with a passenger, Shawn M. Jepson, 45, of Valley Falls. Both Fischer and Jepson were taken to Stormont Vail with non-life threatening injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
This accident happened just down the road where a Basehor couple, Travis and Ashley Askew and their 6 month old, along with Ronold Heston, of Oskaloosa were killed in an accident on June 19, 2016.
