TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Topeka police are on the scene of an accident involving a car hitting a house near the corner of 17th and Burnett Road.
Officers responded to a call of an injury accident around 11:51 p.m. Friday night. When they arrived, a car had struck the side of a house and hit a nearby gas line.
Neighbors reported a strong gas smell in the air. Lt. Jennifer Cross told KSNT News no vehicle occupants were present at the scene when officers arrived.
No injuries have been reported at this time. Officials are unsure whether anyone was in the home at the time of the accident.
Cross said Kansas Gas Service is also at the scene, attempting to turn gas services off in the neighborhood. The Topeka Fire Department said there is no need to evacuate the neighborhood at this time.
Police are urging people to stay clear of the area while they shut down the scene.
