Topeka Halfway House to be reconsidered by planning commission

city-council

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – A federal halfway house in Topeka is being kicked back the Topeka Planning Commission before it has a chance of opening.

Topeka City Council discussed and agreed that the permit to open the halfway house was not thoroughly looked over.

The council voted 9-1 to send it back.

The permit would allow a halfway building near the Kansas Expocentre on 2035 S.W. Western Ave.

A developer’s plan would remodel an existing house for a 45 bed facility, just 200 feet from the Kansas Expocentre’s grounds.

Last month the Shawnee County Commissioners voted against the permit 3-2.
