TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) A Topeka LEGO team is getting ready to battle 50 other teams at a tournament in Lee’s Summit, Missouri on Saturday.
The eight-member Topeka team is made up of third through second grade students. The team – known as “LEGO Pack” is using robot Legos to come up with a solution to a real-world problem. This year’s theme is called “Animal Allies” and “LEGO pack” focused it’s project on bats. Team members are looking at ways of controlling where bats live – such as attics – and come up with an effective and low cost solution. The upcoming competition is just one of five different competitions throughout November and December.
Team participant Amelia Van Dalsem said “I feel nervous and I feel excited…nervous…because it’s kind of…you’re nervous of…well, you don’t really know what’s coming and excited because you’re really excited maybe you’ll go up another level maybe your team will do super well.”
The team says they hope to do well enough to receive an invitation for the next level of tournaments.
