Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirms elderly man drowns

MAYETTA, Kan. (KSNT)  –  The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office identifies the man who drowned earlier today as 91 year old John H. Johnson, of Berryton Kansas.

Investigators confirm he drowned in a boating accident on a private pond around 3 p.m. in Mayetta, Kansas.

They told us three people were fishing in a boat on a private pond when the boat capsized. Johnson drowned when attempting to swim to shore, while the two other people survived.

According to Sheriff Tim Morse’s Facebook post, authorities responded to the reported drowning at the southwest corner of 182nd Rd. and T Rd., near Mayetta.
