Topeka family escapes early morning house fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Crews are on the scene Wednesday morning putting out hot spots at a house fire near the Oakland neighborhood in Topeka.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. crews were called to the 700 block of Southeast Branner, that’s just east of downtown Topeka across Shunga Creek.

When they arrived they found smoke and fire pouring out of the house.  The two adults and two kids who live at the house were able to get out safely.

An investigation’s unit responded and determined the fire was intentionally set.  TFD says 28-year-old Tanesha Gail Carter was arrested and booked into jail for aggravated arson and on outstanding Shawnee County warrant.

The Estimated amount of damage was reported to be $20,000.
