TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Topeka homeowners are furious after a woman admits to leaving their neighborhood trashed! Kim Kurtz says she’s been living in this house for two weeks. When she got there, she says the inside was trashed.
One neighbor sent us a photo showing how frustrating it was to live next to an alley with that much garbage. He called the city and they were out to clean it up days later. When they got there, they found out Kurtz wasn’t paying for water, trash or gas service in the house.
“I didn’t have the water on because I knew there was a major water leak,” Kurtz said. “I just got somebody here today.”
The city tells KSNT News the water was not getting turned on because the owner of the property hasn’t been paying the water bill. KSNT News reached out to the owner of the home to get to the bottom of it, but his phone went straight to voicemail.
It’s not even clear if the woman we talked to is supposed to be living in the home.
“It was cited to be torn down,” Kurtz said. “And now I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
While neighbors are relieved the trash has been cleaned up, the woman living here is waiting to see what action the city takes. The City of Topeka told KSNT News they did get a hold of the property owner.
The woman is trying to buy the home from the owner. The city has decided to let her to live in the home while she restores utilities.
KSNT News will keep tabs on the story and let you know what happens.
