WICHITA, Kan, (KSNW) — Senator Jerry Moran is responding to reports that he’s been offered the Secretary of Agriculture position in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
“While press reports indicate otherwise, I have not been offered the position of Secretary of Agriculture,” Senator Moran said in an email to KSN News. “I have been given a great opportunity to continue serving Kansans in the United States Senate and that will be my full focus.”
Moran is on the Senate Appropriations Committee and is the chairman of the subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration.
Representative Tim Huelskamp, who was voted out of the 1st District in the August primary, said earlier in the week that he had been approached by the transition team to be considered as Secretary of Agriculture. There have also been reports that Governor Sam Brownback is being considered for the position. Brownback served on Trump’s Agriculture Advisory Committee during the campaign.
