TOPEKA, Kan.  (KSNT) – Construction on the library’s new Pedestrian Plaza will begin today.  According to a press release, the construction will improve access and repair damages to the library’s front entrance.

Improvements include:

*A lower, “zero curb”

*Installation of concrete planters

*A built-in ice/snow melt system

*New lighting for sidewalks

*New concrete paving for sidewalks

The project will be staged in three parts to maintain access to the library. The first phase will take place on the west side of the front sliding entry doors and extend west to the flagpole. Any entrance not obstructed by construction will be open to customers.  Parking in the west lot will be limited. The Northwest lot will serve as a staging area for construction materials and vehicles.  The project will be complete in early 2017.
