WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Yesenia Sesmas was arrested Saturday in Dallas accused of killing Laura Abarca-Nogueda and kidnapping her week old baby.
She has been living in the U.S. for more than 18 years but is undocumented and has known Abarca for nearly 10 years.
According to Sesmas, she and Abarca made a pact last August.
“She had already aborted three babies and said she didn’t want the baby, and I said I had already lost a baby, and she said she’d give me the girl,” said Sesmas.
Last Thursday, a week after Sophia was born, Sesmas went to pick up the child.
That’s when Abarca apparently retracted her part of deal, wanting to keep her baby.
Sesmas was not going to accept this outcome and decided to threaten Abarca.
“I just wanted to threaten her with the gun but the gun went off,” said Sesmas
A supposed accident, she took the baby to Dallas where she was captured.
When asked what she planned to do with the baby, she said she planned to keep Sophia like she was her own daughter.
“I’m guilty because of what I did, but I didn’t mean to,” said Sesmas.
But it’s not the first time Yesenia is behind bars. Last July, she was detained because a woman accused her of kidnapping and assault, but she was let go because of a lack of evidence.
Yesenia, who says she acted alone, will be extradited back to Wichita.
