TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The day before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest nights for bars. On average across Kansas, over 250 drivers are arrested for DUI a week. But according to the Ottawa Police Department, the Thanksgiving holiday period from Wednesday to Sunday outranks all but New Year’s in the average number of crashes involving drunk drivers.
A DUI conviction will result in jail time, the suspension or revocation of a driver’s license, and a fine of $500 to $2,500.
And that’s why the Topeka Police Department will have up to six potential checkpoints from 10:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m.
