KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Seven people have been wounded in an extended shooting that was spread out across a few blocks in Kansas City.
Kansas City Police spokeswoman Stacy Graves said in a statement that officers were called to respond to a report of shots being fired about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in south Kansas City and arrived to see people shooting at each other. Graves said one officer opened fired due to safety reasons.
Police heard ongoing gunfire and saw cars near the first shooting scene driving and firing at each other. Graves said the incident spanned a few city blocks.
Six people went to hospitals with gunshot wounds, and one person is in critical condition. One person also said he was shot by police and was treated for minor injuries.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the officer that fired the weapon was placed on administrative leave. It also wasn’t clear what sparked the initial shooting.
