TROY, Kan. (KSNT) – An 11-year-old girl was killed Monday morning following a crash in Doniphan County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2003 Jeep Liberty was southbound on Randolph Road at U.S. Highway 36 around 7:30 a.m., east of Troy. KHP says the Jeep entered the intersection of U.S. 36 at Randolph Road and then the driver lost control of the vehicle, spinning out and re-entered the westbound lane of U.S. 36. The Jeep was then struck head on by a semi.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as 17-year-old Cierra L. Waitt, of Wathena, Kansas. She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Three other occupants, an 11-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were in the vehicle with Cierra. The 14 and 15 year old were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 11-year-old was identified as Kay-Lynn Drinkert, of Wathena, who was pronounced dead at the scene. KHP says Drinkert and the 15-year-old boy were not wearing seat belts and it was unknown if the 14-year-old girl was.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
The driver of the semi and the driver of the Jeep were both wearing seat belts.
