Emporia State’s Kelly Moten and Pittsburg State’s Paige Lungwitz have been named the MIAA Women’s Basketball Co-Athletes of the Week.
Moten averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as #1 Emporia State improved to 8-0 on the season. She tied her career high with 31 points and added seven assists, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the Lady Hornets 112-60 win over Ark.-Fort Smith. She had nine points in the first quarter as ESU scored an MIAA record 37 first quarter points. She came back with 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals as the #1 Lady Hornets beat the defending national champions Lubbock Christian 60-50 on Saturday. She scored the first six points for ESU and moved into the top ten in career scoring for the Lady Hornets. She then had nine of the Lady Hornets last 13 points in the final 4:37 after the Lady Chaps closed to within six points. She moved into tenth place on the Lady Hornets career scoring list with 1,465 points and tenth on the career blocked shots list with 76 blocks. The 5-9 senior guard is a native of Gary, Ind. where she competed at Roosevelt High School.
