TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Topeka City Council members discussed raising its pay at Tuesday’s meeting.
It was a non-action item.
The discussion stemmed from a proposal they’ll plan to consider Dec 13.
The proposal would raise annual pay for each council member from $10,000 to $20,000 and $20,000 to $40,000 for the mayor.
Elaine Shwartz introduced the ordinance that would plan for members to consider approving pay increases for council members and the mayor every four years.
The governing body’s last raise was in 2005.
City Councilman Richard Harmon says that he will propose the city raises pay for members, but only for those who inherit the positions of its current members.
