WICHITA, Kan. (KSNT) – A Wichita mother and her three children are safe Tuesday morning after being taken from their home.
The Wichita Police Department reports officers were sent to a burglary in progress that was called in at 11:00 Monday night in the 1800 block of south Lexington. When officers arrived they made contact with a 31-year-old man at the resident. The resident reported to officers that several suspects had entered his home and an unknown suspect pointed a handgun at him and tied him up. The resident tells police the suspect then escorted 36-year-old Melissa Gifford and her three children out to a black Ford Expedition that was parked in the driveway and left the scene after taking electronics from the home.
An Amber Alert was issued by KBI just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday for 2-year-old Grayson Gifford and Madison and Aiden Ruiz, both 8-years-old.
Investigators began working immediately on the case and were able to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Roque Arellano and other individuals. The suspects were later located and arrested at a hotel on west Kellogg just after 6:00 a.m.
Melissa and her three children were located later at a west side hotel unharmed around 8:00 a.m.
Investigators are concluding that this was not a random event.
