Funeral services set for Topeka man killed in Highway 24 crash

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Funeral services have been set for a Topeka man who was killed in a fatal crash Monday.

According to Davidson Funeral Home, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, at Topeka Bible Church for 36-year-old Dustin Keith Gillespie. Visitation will take place Friday evening between 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the same location.

Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash late Monday morning near the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports just before 11:00 a.m. a 2013 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Gillespie, and a semi were both westbound on U.S. Highway 24 about two miles east of U.S. 75 when the Volkswagen rear ended the semi.

Gillespie was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to his obituary, Dustin graduated from Seaman High School in 1998. He married his best friend and love of his life Erin Broadbent Gillespie in June 2011. He was a doting, loving father to their daughter Ally.

“Ally was “the best part” of his day, and she had him completely wrapped around her little finger.”

He was a franchise owner of two Gambino’s Pizza restaurants.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Ally Gillespie Education Fund at Silver Lake Bank.
