Former Fort Riley soldier found dead in North Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police are investigating the death of a California paratrooper near an Army base in North Carolina.

Officials at Fort Bragg said Fayetteville police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old member of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Officials say Sgt. Jason C. Wiens of Clovis, California, was found dead in his home in Fayetteville on Sunday.

Details about his death were not available Tuesday.

Wiens was a combat medic assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

He joined the Army in 2011 and had been assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas in 2012 where he worked as an ambulance driver and emergency care sergeant.

He transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division in 2016.
