Man identified in possible drowning in Jackson County

HOLTON, Kan. (KSNT) – A man is dead in Jackson County after a possible drowning.

The incident took place in the northwest side of the Banner Creek Reservoir.

Authorities found the man’s body next to a kayak. He was wearing a life jacket.

According to authorities, the man has been identified as Dan A. Mehringer, 78, of Holton.

Mehringer’s body was sent in for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

In a news release, Sheriff Tim Morse said, “Dan Mehringer, a long-time Holton resident is remembered as a kind and caring person, who helped others, and always had something positive to say.”
