In addition to the leading edge technology available within the KSNT Storm Track Weather Center, the StormTracker plays an important role in the KSNT Storm Track Weather team’s ability to track the weather. Radar provides solid and reliable indications of weather conditions, but only the StormTracker provides an exclusive street level view of the weather in your neighborhood.
Whether you’re on your way to work, or coming home from picking up the kids at school – if the weather may affect you, we’ll be watching. The StormTracker will be out tracking.
StormTracker is an H2 Hummer complete with a V8, 6.0 liter engine, 4-wheel drive, GOBI roof rack, and fully equipped with a telescoping mast, Microwave Radio Communications technology, Elmo and Sony dash cameras, CB radio, and Marshall playback monitors.
StormTracker is equipped with three ways to send live feeds back to the KSNT studios: microwave signals, online streams, and TVU live broadcasting technologies. With Sennheiser wireless microphone receivers and audio mixers, live field reports and commentary are transmitted from right inside StormTracker. Floodlights are mounted on the side of StormTracker so live reports can be shown alongside areas of damage – even at night.
The 4-wheel drive StormTracker allows us to get into areas that we wouldn’t be able to get to in a regular vehicle. With this capability, we are able to maneuver through storm damaged areas and winter snow storms.
StormTracker has been with KSNT Storm Track Weather since 2003, and has tracked everything from snowstorms to dangerous tornadoes. StormTracker enjoys tracking some of the most active weather in the country . . . right here in Northeast Kansas.
When not always watching and always tracking, StormTracker takes joy in representing KSNT News at events in Topeka and surrounding communities, and also enjoys relaxing spa days at the local car wash.
The KSNT Storm Track StormTracker can only be found on KSNT News.
